In a thrilling encounter, the Denver Nuggets overcame a 20-point deficit in the second half to defeat the Los Angeles Lakers 101-99 on Monday night. The Nuggets' comeback was capped off by a game-winning 15-foot step-back jumper from Jamal Murray at the buzzer.
The victory marks the Nuggets' second straight win over the Lakers, following their sweep in the 2023 Western Conference finals. It also gives Denver a 2-0 start to the 2023-24 NBA season.
The Nuggets were led by Nikola Jokic, who finished with a triple-double of 25 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists. Murray added 23 points, including the crucial buzzer-beater.
The Lakers were paced by LeBron James, who scored 30 points but was held to just 11-of-27 shooting from the field. Anthony Davis added 28 points and 12 rebounds.
The Lakers led by as many as 20 points in the third quarter, but the Nuggets chipped away at the lead throughout the second half. Denver took its first lead of the game with less than three minutes remaining, setting the stage for Murray's heroics.
The Lakers will look to bounce back on Wednesday night when they host the Portland Trail Blazers. The Nuggets will be back in action on Thursday night when they visit the Golden State Warriors.
